Lyoto Machida was Impressed with Jon Jones' UFC 152 Showing

| by

Jon Jones' (17-1) determination to not submit to Vitor Belfort's (21-10) armbar shows the heart of a champion, according to Lyoto Machida (18-3).

"I think Belfort has not relieved, I think Jon Jones had merit out of position, was seated perhaps 90%, but then the spirit of a champion spoke louder," said Machida to GloboEsporte.com.

Machida, a former light heavyweight champion, was originally scheduled to fight Jones on the UFC 152 card. He opted not to fight, citing lack of time to prepare.

If Machida gets another championship shot, which is unclear, he notes that he wouldn't have eased pressure on the submission.

"By no means let go of his arm," said Machida. "Bring his arm to Brazil."
