Lyoto Machida is Fine with Having to Fight for Another Title Shot

| by

Ed Soares, the manager for former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida, understands that his client may need to compete again before receiving another shot at the title. And, that seems to be quite alright with Machida and Soares.

"Whatever the UFC wants is fine," said Soares, in a recent interview with "I'm not tripping on that."

Soares said that Machida (18-3) wanted more than five weeks to prepare for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Machida was defeated by Jones late in 2011, but earned the No. 1 contender spot after UFC president Dana White announced that the most impressive winner at UFC on Fox: Shogun vs. Vera would secure the position.

White said in a recent interview that Machida would need to compete again before he was placed in a title shot. No date has been set for his return to the Octagon.
