Is Lakers’ Metta World Peace Planning to Sign with Floyd Mayweather’s Promotional Company?

| by Alex Groberman

Metta World Peace has always marched to the beat of his own drum. Always. So in a weird way, it sort of makes sense that while the rest of his teammates are busily preparing for the upcoming 2012-13 NBA season, he would be plotting his boxing career.

Yes, apparently he wants to be a boxer.

Here is what Peace told Elie Seckbach (via Larry Brown Sports) recently:

"I know Floyd … Money Team. I actually might sign to Floyd Mayweather’s promotion (company). I was talking to Lou DiBella, I was talking to Floyd. I briefly spoke to Bob Arum. I think I’m going to go sign with Floyd Mayweather.

“I would need at least a year (to train). I’m not going to do it now, but I can’t wait til an opportunity comes so I can get a chance in the ring.”

As funny as this sounds, it is worth remembering that Ron Ron is freakishly strong. The way he overpowers people in the post, even guys that are bigger than him, is a thing of legend. He may not have the speed and/or general athleticism necessary to be a successful boxer, but he definitely has the strength, size and toughness.

Still, it’s a bit odd that he would choose boxing over the UFC. You know, because of how great he is with his elbows and all.
