Kevin Mitchell made his first ring appearance in seven months and in the process raised the possibility of a domestic dust-up with new WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns in the summer.
Mitchell, fighting for the first time since his career saving victory over John Murray last July, outpointed Felix Lora over ten rounds at York Hall and immediately confirmed that Burns was on his radar;
“I’ll have another fight in March and we’ll fight Burns in the summer. Ricky Burns is a lovely lad but I’m going to have to beat him.”
Any battle between the pair would come with a fascinating back story- Mitchell saw his dreams of a world title ripped apart in May 2010 by Australian Michael Katsidis- the same man who Burns toppled last year to help secure his latest title.

Before any fight can be made Burns faces Paulus Moses in March for what will be the first defence of the strap he secured when Juan Manuel Marquez vacated the title last month.
