Manny Pacquiao is a national hero in the Philippines, so you can sort of understand why the politicians down there are so protective of him. That being said, there is a limit to how much you can control other people’s behavior.
The politicians in the Philippines apparently didn’t get that memo, though.
Following Pacquiao’s stunning knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez, a series of memes were posted to the web making light of the situation. It wasn’t anything personal – everyone -- outside of the most diehard Floyd Mayweather Jr. supporters -- likes the guy. His knockout (and subsequent position on the mat) just lended itself perfectly to that sort of internet shenanigans.
One of the many people who posted a few memes of a knocked out Pacquiao to various social media accounts was Canadian pop star, Justin Bieber. That didn’t sit too well with some folks.

On Monday, a group of representatives filed House Resolution 2962 – essentially publicly demanding that Bieber apologize to their hero. Among the people who signed off on this ridiculous bill: Representatives Carol Jayne Lopez (Yacap party-list), Seth Jalosjos (Zamboanga del Norte), Amado Bagatsing (Manila), Antonio Alvarez (Palawan), Mark Aeron Sambar (PBA party-list), Alfredo Garbin Jr. (Ako Bicol), and Isidro Lico (Ating Koop party-list).
"Mr. Bieber should have known that the Hon. Pacquiao has reached his stature as such as a result of sheer hardwork, determination, and firm belief in God, and despite such stature best exemplifies humility and grace even despite defeat," the lawmakers said (via Sun Star).
And if he doesn’t?
"Should he refuse to do so, Mr. Justin Bieber be declared persona non grata and thus should not be allowed to enter the country at any time in the future.”

The lesson here? Filipino politicians won’t like this section of Opposing Views very much.
