Jimmy Hettes Impresses in UFC Debut v. Alex Caceres

| by

Filling in for the injured Leonard Garcia, Jimmy “The Kid” Hettes made his promotion debut on Sunday’s UFC on Versus 5, earning his ninth submission win in nine pro bouts, taking out former TUF contestant Alex Caceres with a rear naked choke in the 2nd round of the preliminary fight.

Signing a contract just about three weeks ago, Hettes took the fight on short notice against the young Caceres, both fighters presenting different skill sets coming into the fight, Hettes the better grappler while Caceres being the better striker. The two featherweights started fast and furious and never let up the pace in the first round as Caceres was able to pressure Hettes early in the fight before the Swoyersville, PA native was able to get a hold of the Miami, Florida fighter and dragging him to the ground.

The fight from there saw numerous transitions as Hettes attempted several leg locks while Caceres landed some shots while defending the submissions, swelling up the eye of Hettes, but that didn’t seem to effect him. In a round that featured several transitions from both fighters, Caceres and Hettes were able to work a bit of their game in the round, with Hettes securing takedowns and reversals and Caceres landing a few of his own and some nice ground and pound.

The second round would be a completely different story as Hettes was able to dominate from the opening bell, landing a nice throw on Caceres and attempting to work several submission attempts, which, to his credit, Caceres was able to defend. With Caceres on the defensive most of the round and working to get the fight back to the top, Hettes landing another hip toss, landing a few shots to the side of his opponent and working for a more submissions.

Caceres was able to push the fight back to the feet, with Hettes holding on to his head, Caceres was forced back to the ground, giving up his back, allowing Hettes to quickly take the back and secure the rear naked choke to earn his first UFC win in his debut with the promotion.

The win gives Hettes his ninth straight victory and handing Caceres his 2nd straight loss in the promotion and his 4th by the way of submission in his career.
