Jake Ellenberger Has Nothing but Praise for Johny Hendricks

| by

Since Johny Hendricks (14-1) will have to wait for a possible title shot, he decided to take a fight instead of sitting on the side and waiting for one. Hendricks' upcoming challenger Jake Ellenberger (28-6) looks at the decision as a winning one for himself.

"He could've easily said, 'No way, I'm not going to do it,'" said Ellenberger on MMA Weekly Radio. "But, props to him for stepping up and taking the fight where there's a lot to lose and not much to gain for him. I give more respect to him for taking the fight."

The two will meet at UFC 158 on March 16 out of the Bell Centre in Canada.

After Hendricks knocked Martin Kampmann (2-6) out at UFC 154, he was under the impression that he would be next to challenge for the welterweight championship. The UFC decided to give the next title shot to Nick Diaz (26-8-1) after a request by champion Georges St-Pierre (23-2). That title fight is set for UFC 158 as well.

If Hendricks was to loss against Ellenberger, the UFC has not said if the title shot will be gone too.
