Invicta FC's Shannon Knapp Understands that Many Female Fighters Want a Shot at Ronda Rousey

Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp sees that there are many female fighters out there, but only a select few who form the upper tier. Due to this, she understands if a fighter wants leave the organization for a larger name company. The most recent example is with Cat Zingano being granted her release, so she can fight for Strikeforce.

"I know they aspire to go over and get their shot at Ronda [Rousey] – and I don't have a problem with that, or whoever's sitting at the top of the heap over there," said said Knapp on MMA Junkie. "I think that's what's going to improve the sport – and certainly improve the landscape for the female athlete."

Knapp looks to change how the sport is operated by allowing fighters more leeway about their future.

"Old mentality would make you say no and hang on to everything you've got because that was the way it is," said Knapp. "But that's not the mindset we have, obviously – we're doing everything different."

The next Invicta FC show takes place October 6 in Kanas City and will be streamed on the company's website.

"I've said it all along – I think this is one opportunity that you look to," said Knapp. "I'm true to my word, and we're open to anything if there's a better opportunity that exists for the female athletes that we have and they aspire to be there."
