Heading into UFC 146, Frank Mir Very Confident About Submission Skills

| by

It's pretty clear that Frank Mir wants to take Junior Dos Santos to the mat and showcase his submission skills at UFC 146. Up against one of the most powerful strikers in the UFC, Mir is confident he can collect a limb in his championship bout.

"I heard his corner saying the only chance Mir has is if it goes to the ground. I'm like, well, the only chance he has is if it doesn't go to the ground. It goes back and forth," explained Mir. "He goes to the ground with me, he's dead. We might as well go ahead and start calling the orthopedic surgeons and prep the room."

While many fighters tend to exaggerate during the pre-fight hype, Mir's claim has some support. The BJJ black belt broke Antonio Nogueira's arm in a vicious kimura in his last fight at UFC 140. The fact that Dos Santos trains with Nogueira and has called him his hero only adds fuel to the fire.

"If I catch him in a hold and he decides not to tap, that limb is never going to be the same again. What's your career going to be afterwards?" asked Mir.

The 16-5 heavyweight gets the opportunity to reclaim the UFC belt after Alistair Overeem was forced out following a failed a drug test last month. A consummate veteran, Mir poises a challenge to the most elite grapplers in the division and will look to extend his three-fight win streak against Dos Santos.

UFC 146 kicks off on May 26 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
