Georges St-Pierre's November Return Suddenly in Doubt?

| by

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is hopeful that he'll be able to return to action by this coming November, but his trainer Firas Zahabi isn't so sure about that.

St-Pierre has been on the sidelines since undergoing surgery on his ACL back in December and the tentative plan is to get him back in the cage by the time UFC 154 -- which is conveniently scheduled to take place in Montreal -- rolls around. Speaking during an appearance on MMAJunkie Radio recently, Zahabi took a little wind out of those sails when he gave his own assessment of St-Pierre's recovery and return to the cage.

"I won't be confident to [give a time table] until I see him in the gym and moving around and live sparring," Zahabi said. "You never know how [a long layoff] messes with a guy's game. So let's see what he looks like in sparring and see how it goes."

Zahabi's level attitude in this regard will likely help keep St-Pierre from coming back too early just to satisfy fan (and fighter) demand or his employer's need for one of their biggest pay-per-view draws -- it could also lead to a lot of disappointed spectators at the Bell Centre.
