Enzo Maccarinelli Tests Positive for Banned Substance, Gets 6-Month Suspension

| by

Former WBO cruiserweight world champion Enzo Maccarinelli has been banned from boxing for six months after testing positive for a banned substance.

The sanction relates to a test carried out after his British cruiserweight title victory over Shane McPhilbin in March.

Maccarinelli (35-5) took methylhexaneamine as he prepared for his fight with McPhilbin- a bout which courted controversy when the Welshman was saved by an early bell after appearing to be on the verge of being stopped.

McPhilbin may now have the chance to obtain Maccarinelli’s belt after the champion voluntarily vacated his title.

The former cruiserweight world champion will be eligible to fight again in October as he chases a world title at light-heavyweight.
