Did Jon Jones Cry to Dana White About Chael Sonnen Making Fun of Him?

| by Alex Groberman

This has been a rough month for UFC light heavyweight champ, Jon Jones. First he caused something of a stir when he suggested that he didn’t want to fight Lyoto Machida at UFC 152. Then he turned himself into public enemy No. 1 when he essentially single-handedly got UFC 151 canceled by refusing to fight Chael Sonnen.

He followed that up by losing Machida as his UFC 152 opponent which, while not really his fault, didn’t make for a great story. Finally, he wound up getting a UFC 152 bout versus Vitor Belfort – not exactly a matchup that the public was thirsting for.

We thought Jones hit rock bottom last week. If this report by way of Bloody Elbow is true, though, this is definitely a new low.

In a recent article from The Wrestling Observer (Subscription required), there's yet another piece of information that will add fuel to the Jon Jones fire:

A police officer saw a young black couple drive by and pulled them over. What he did next left them stunned:

Jones was very upset after Chael began calling him out and mocking him on Twitter, going as far as to contact White and ask him to tell Chael to stop

Even if you're an avid Jones supporter, it's hard to cast this in a positive light. Sure, it may not always be fun to be the butt of ten thousand Chael Sonnen jokes, but that's not something you can just ask Dana White to stop. It just seems childish for a professional athlete to respond so oddly to a little bit of heat from a possible competitor.

Again, if that’s true – wow. Jones is far and away the most impressive fighter in MMA right now. The gifts he has, both in terms of sheer athleticism and genuine skill, are off the charts. Because of that, the thought of him, a grown man, running and crying to White about being mercilessly taunted by a guy that he would in all likelihood destroy if they ever fought is the worst mental image ever.

As someone who actually likes Jones, here’s to hoping that a.) this isn’t true and b.) if it is true, that this ends up being the final low point.
