Derek Brunson Out vs. Ronaldo Souza Because of Vision Issues

| by

The planned Derek Brunson-Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza bout for Strikeforce's March card has been pulled due to issues with Brunson's eye exam. It would seem that Brunson's vision if he were to lose a lense is not good enough for him to continue fighting in the state of Ohio.

Brunson reported that the Ohio Athletic Commission would not let him fight with contact lenses, though the head of the OAC denied those remarks in an interview with MMAFighting.com.

"That's an absolute lie, an absolute falsification or misinterpretation from Mr. Brunson," said Bernie Profato, the Executive Director for OAC.

Profato added that fighters may wear contact lenses, but need to meet a minimum vision threshold without the contacts to get a license. According to Profato, Brunson has 20/400 vision without the lenses, well off the requirements by the state.
