How bad was Saturday’s post-fight brawl between Dereck Chisora and David Haye? Well, bad enough for the authorities to get involved, apparently.
As we reported on Opposing Views earlier today, Chisora and Haye spontaneously threw down in front of the media following Chisora’s 12-round decision loss to Vitali Klitschko. The chaos started when Haye, as he is prone to doing, belligerently (and randomly) interrupted Chisora’s post-fight news conference for several minutes. Eventually, Chisora grew wary of the nonsense and engaged his antagonizer in a fight.
On Sunday, as a result of what transpired the night before, Chisora and his coach Don Charles wound up getting detained by police at Munich airport and taken to headquarters for questioning. Why did the authorities intervene? It turns out, on top of the physical blows exchanged, there were also some very nasty threats lobbed back and forth between the parties involved. More specifically, according to ABC, Chisora was heard threatening to shoot Haye.
Popular VideoThis judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:
"I swear to God, David, I am going to shoot you. I am going to shoot you. I am going to physically shoot David Haye," Chisora allegedly said.
Police also reportedly looked for Haye but couldn’t find him in his hotel.
Per Munich-based Sueddeutsche Zeitung (via ABC), Haye went to the airport straight after his brawl with Chisora and got out of dodge.
Needless to say, a future fight between Chisora and Haye is a virtual lock.
