The main event of UFC on Fuel TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger ended in a flurry, as Diego Sanchez tried to mount a late attempt at defeating Jake Ellenberger in the third round. Now, after seeing the how the fight ended, and having stated once before that all main events would be five rounds, UFC president Dana White is reverting back to his old statement.
"We blew it, it should have been a five-round fight," said White, in a post-fight interview with Ariel Helwani Wednesday night (thanks to MMAMania.com for transcribing). "I was sitting here again tonight looking at the fight going, 'Yeah, this shoulda been five rounds.' I think that if Ellenberger and Diego went back in there for a fourth round, the place would have went crazy."
As for the future of main events, White added, "There will be five round fights from now on. FUEL would have let us do 33 rounds if we wanted to so yeah, there will be five round fights from here on in - other than contract that have already been signed."
Ellenberger claimed a decision victory over Sanchez, helping vault his stock in the UFC's welterweight division. For complete results, click here.
