Dan Henderson Offers His Take on Jon Jones Not Fighting Chael Sonnen

| by

Dan Henderson was likely as upset about everything that went down Thursday as anyone else. After being forced to give up his shot at UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, Henderson had to hear the news that everyone else was surprised by.

"This is the first time that the champion wouldn't step up and fight, and I was pretty shocked to hear that," Henderson said, after hearing that Jones wouldn't face Chael Sonnen to keep UFC 151 on the schedule. "It's not like he's injured. It's unbelievable to me that he wouldn't take that 'the show must go on' attitude."

Henderson was forced out of the September 1 meeting with Jones after partially tearing a ligament in his knee. The UFC offered the fight to Lyoto Machida, but Machida turned it down. Next, Sonnen was offered the spot, and he accepted.

However, Jones turned down fighting Sonnen and the UFC decided to scrap the event completely. Now, Jones will meet Vitor Belfort on September 22 at UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort after Machida again withdrew his name from the headline bout.
