Cheick Kongo Didn't Want to Fight Roy Nelson at the TUF 16 Finale

| by

UFC president Dana White posted on Twitter that Matt MItrione was not the first choice to replace Shane Carwin and meet Roy Nelson in December.

"(Cheick) Kongo turned it down," White posted, of the opportunity to face Nelson at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale.

Instead, Mitrione will get that opportunity on December 15 from Las Vegas. Mitrione suffered his first pro defeat earlier this year to Kongo.

Mitrione and Nelson will be the main event of the night. Carwin suffered extensive damage to his knee, forcing him out of the planned bout between Ultimate Fighter coaches.
