Carl Froch vs. Lucian Bute Officially Set for May 26

| by

As we reported last month, Carl Froch will be taking on IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute.

The two had attempted to put a fight together earlier in the year, but talks broke down and American TV network Showtime showed little interest in the bout.

But after Bute took to Twitter to announce he was ready to face Froch, the former WBC champion and his promotional team Matchroom called the IBF champion’s bluff and now the two will face off in Nottingham’s Capital FM Arena on May 26th.

Both sides confirmed the fight with Froch himself saying:

“It’s a dream come true to get this opportunity to become a three-time World Champion in my hometown of Nottingham,”

Whilst InterBox’s president, Jean Bedard added:

“We really wanted to press forward with this fight.

“We’ve been insistent, made some concessions, but it was important to realise this is a fight that Lucian, our fans and our partners wanted. Also, I am convinced that Lucian will silence the critics. Lucian is showing great courage in agreeing to defend his title in enemy territory.”

With this fight we will get a number of answers regarding Bute as some have questioned his reluctance to give up home advantage (he fought Jean Paul Mendy in his native country of Romania, but against Froch he will be the travelling fighter for only the 4th time in his career) and some have questioned the level of his opposition.
