A young boy shot a mother pushing a stroller in Brunswick, Ga., Thursday morning, wounding her and killing her one-year-old baby.
Sherry West told WAWS-TV that two boys approached her while she was walking with her baby, Antonio Santiago, demanding money. She said she did not have any and attempted to protect her baby when shots were fired.
"I put my arms over my baby and he shoves me, and then he shot my baby right in the head," West said.
Police have not yet found the weapon used. Brunswick Police Chief Tobe Green said they are searching for two African American suspects. The older one, who fired the gun, is said to be between 13 and 15 years old, while the younger is 10 to 12.
"This is obviously just a terrible day in the city of Brunswick made even more so by the senseless killing of a young child, and it appears perpetrated by children themselves." Mayor Bryan Thompson said at a news conference after the attack. "I would like to stress and plead with people in our community right now, people who are hearing my voice and seeing us standing here, you know something about this crime."
Police are offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
