A Colorado teen fatally shot himself while playing a game of Russian roulette Monday night.

The Pueblo County Coroner’s office confirmed Wednesday night that 17-year-old Cruisito Leiba died from a single gunshot wound to the head, KRDO reported.

Police arrived at the scene Monday night just before midnight and found the teenager still breathing. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died from injuries.

Witnesses told authorities that Leiba was playing Russian roulette by himself at the time of the incident.

"He shot it once, nothing happened," Cruisito's friend, Selena Aguila, told CBS Denver. "He shot it twice, nothing happened. Then, he shot it the third time and we heard a big bang.”

According to reports, Leiba kept spinning the cylinder and pulling the trigger before he ultimately shot himself.

"We were upstairs and heard a loud bang ... ran outside, I was like, 'Someone call 911,'" said Evalina Byrd, another friend of Leiba’s.

Police captain Kenny Rider said fatalities involving Russian roulette are not common in the area. He said he hopes it doesn’t become a trend and that others will now think twice about playing the dangerous game.

"This game is absolutely dangerous. It will kill you,” Rider said. “And we do not want any kids playing this game, or adults.”

At Leiba’s vigil, the teen’s father delivered a simple, but strong message.

“You play it once, you’re done,” he said.

Police are now investigating how the teen got the gun in the first place.
