A resident from Arvada, Colorado, walked into the Lake Arbor Police Department on Labor Day because she wanted to hug the officers.
The unidentified woman told the officers she was upset by the recent loss of law enforcement officials around the country, although shooting deaths of officers are down 13 percent in 2015 since the same period last year. Shootings of police have, on average, halved since the 1970s when an average of 62 officers were killed yearly, reported The Associated Press.
The Arvada Police Department posted the story on its Facebook page, saying:
“What a wonderful day to be working!!

“We had a lovely citizen come into our Lake Arbor station who was extremely upset about the recent loss of so many officers across the country. She came in to give a HUG to an officer. The lucky recipient was Officer Steiner. While a bit of a reach because of his size, she managed to get ahold of him and hugged him great; not once but twice!!!!” the department posted on Facebook after which they said 'Man, we work in a great city!!!!' and wished everyone a happy holiday."
Within a day, the post had more than 3,000 likes, more than 1,200 shares and more than 180 comments.
“It's nice to be on the positive side of things. Sometimes you need to put something in the bank on that side After all we see on a daily basis,” Steiner said. “I go to almost every fatality that we have and every major crime that we have and it's nice to get a hug as compared to looking over the trauma,” reported The Denver Channel.
Others followed the woman’s gestures on Facebook, by writing friendly things about the police on the wall.
