A woman who found a bundle of cash inside a pizza box and returned it got a tasty reward.
When Selena Avalos, a Spacetel Wireless manager from San Jose, California, ordered chicken wings and breadsticks, she had no idea that a fortune was awaiting her.
"When I opened this box, I'm thinking they're breadsticks," said Avalos.
Instead, she mistakenly received three gigantic stacks of bills worth around $5,000 inside the box. It was later revealed that the employees at a downtown branch had inadvertently sent her a box meant for the bank, according to The Huffington Post.
“I'm a manager myself, and I do deposits,” explained Avalos. “So I assumed right away it was their deposits."
"This one I was like, no way,” Avalos told us. “I opened another one, and there are more [bills]."
Avalos said she never thought about keeping the money. “I was like, I can’t keep it, it’s a crazy amount of money,” she said, according to WOAI. “It’s not like $20 that you find, you know? It’s almost $5,000.”
The lucky patron immediately called the downtown Domino’s Pizza store where she placed the order, asking to talk to the manager. However, no one called back.
"Wouldn't they be thinking, ‘Where did that money go?' Right away, or maybe the next day?” Avalos told us. “But three days later, nothing? It's crazy."
Since Domino’s wasn’t returning her calls, Avalos enlisted the help of WOAI. The news station managed to get in touch with Domino's corporate staff, who then connected Avalos with the franchise owner.
The pizza company was so grateful to her for returning the dough that they rewarded her free pies for a year. Though, it’s unclear if there are any restrictions on the prize or if she’s allowed to order all items on the menu.
On top of the free pizza, Avalos received one week of paid vacation from Spacetel Wireless for her honesty. The Domino’s customer says she’ll never look at chicken wings or breadsticks the same.
