A Pakistani woman was gang-raped, killed, and hung from a tree.

Three men attacked Muzammil Bibi, 20, in a field in the Layyah area of the Punjab province in Pakistan, reports the Daily Mail.

“This is the first time in my 22 years of service in the police that I have seen such a case, where a girl was raped in this way and found hanging from a tree,” said Senior officer Sadaqat Ali Chohan of the Pakistani police.

"We have heard of such cases in India but never in Pakistan,” said Chohan. “The girl’s clothes were torn. We took her down and moved her to hospital. Her body had signs of resistance. We have arrested three individuals who have confessed to the crime."

Bibi’s attackers strangled her to death.

A search for Bibi all night by her parents resulted in them finding her hanging from the tree in the morning, reports the Mirror.

A similar event happened earlier this month month in India when two women were found hanging from a tree after allegedly being raped. The attacks have prompted a nationwide debate on violence against women.

A rape is reported in India on average every 21 minutes.
