Woman's 5-Year-Old Son Finds Hidden Camera In Women's Restroom At Starbucks

A Los Angeles woman says she is horrified after her 5-year-old son discovered a hidden cell phone camera recording video inside the ladies bathroom of a Starbucks.

The incident occurred Thursday. The victim, who asked not to be identified, was at a Starbucks in Lancaster, California, when her son made a startling discovery.

“My son used the restroom first and I used the restroom after him,” she told KTLA. “I noticed he was staring at the sink a little bit perplexed. I asked him what was wrong and he said, ‘Mommy, why is there a phone under there.'”

The woman looked under the sink and found a cell phone propped up by the paper towels with the camera facing the toilet. She notified employees who then contacted the authorities.

“The deputies discovered that the cellphone was running in a video-recording motion,” said Lt. Joseph Fender, of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station. “They were able to get some type of surveillance video from the location, however I don’t know what the contents of the video are at this time.”

Though it is not clear at this time where the video was being sent or how long it may have been recording, the victim said the damage has been done.

“It’s such a violation of privacy,” she said. “Not only of mine, but my son.”

Starbucks spokesman Jaime Riley released the following statement:

“We are disturbed by this incident and take our obligation to provide a safe environment for our customers and partners (employees) very seriously. Our store partners took swift action as soon as they became aware of the incident by immediately alerting the Sheriff’s Department of the situation.”
