A Romanian woman is being investigated by police after allegedly attacking her husband and ripping open his testicles.

Marinela Benea, 40, carried out the attack after her husband, 39-year-old Ionel Popa, failed to give her flowers or do any housework on International Women’s Day March 8.

“Ionel had been given a bottle of wine for a day’s work instead of getting paid, and had arrived home drunk,” Benea said, according to the Daily Mail.

The couple have been married for 15 years and have a 15-year-old son.

“When he gets drunk, he changes," Benea added. "All night he made me keep the fire on because he was cold and I did it to avoid having an argument."

Benea said she had no regrets about what followed.

“In the morning I opened the curtains and told him to go out and do some work, or at least to help with the household chores but he shouted that I’m not entitled to give him orders,” Benea said.

“I told him he was not any kind of man and I grabbed his testicles,” she added.

This resulted in the left side of his scrotum being torn open.

“It was not my fault that he pulled away, and that’s when it happened,” Benea added.

After the incident, she was reportedly not convinced that Popa required hospital treatment.

“I thought maybe that some ice would solve the problem, but he insisted on calling an ambulance,” she said.

Popa was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

“He told us his wife had attacked him because he did not give her flowers for International Woman's Day,” Aurora Popa, a paramedic, said.

The 39-year-old man remains in hospital recovering from his injuries, according to the Daily Star. Police have not announced if they will press charges.
