An Oregon woman blamed a spider for causing her to crash and total her car.
The incident occurred on Sept. 21. A woman told deputies she was driving in Northwest Portland’s Bonny Slope area when a spider dropped down from her rearview mirror, causing her to panic, WPDE.
The woman said she lost control of her vehicle, went off the road and rolled the car into a ditch. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office closed the road to one lane so that they could turn the vehicle upright. Authorities said the car was totaled.
The driver managed to escape from the accident with just a minor scratch on her hand. The spider who allegedly caused the rollover is still at large.
“Spider season in full swing,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office tweeted. “Driver not injured after crash when spider drops from mirror on NW Thompson Rd today.BR.”
This is not the first time a spider was blamed for a car accident.
In September 2015, Angela K. Kipp, 35, of Syracuse, Indiana, noticed a spider on her shoulder while she was driving, and jumped out of the moving vehicle, People Magazine reported. Her 6-year-old son, who was in the backseat at the time, suffered minor head injuries.
In October, a 17-year-old girl in Kansas saw a spider on her lap while driving. She tried swatting at it, lost control of her vehicle, and crashed into two other cars, the Kansas City Star reported. The accident sent a total of 11 people to the hospital.
