A Georgia mother was outraged to discover that her son's school sent him home in his underwear.
Janet Burgo told WSBTV that her son was completely humiliated by the experience.
"They put him half-naked, in my opinion, on the bus in the cold," she said. "It’s unacceptable to put my child on a bus in his underwear in 40 degree weather.”
Burgo's 4-year-old son was in class when he had an accident and needed to change. Instead of finding him something to wear, however, his teacher put him on the bus in his underwear with a sweatshirt tied around his waist.

"Every time I talk to him, he would get this sad look and say, ‘My teacher put me on the bus in my underwear,’” Burgo said. Though she admits to not replacing her son's extra pair of pants after a previous incident, she believes the teacher should have called her.
"If he had an accident, it was an emergency, if he had no clothes to put on him in February," she said.
When the story began circulating, the teacher resigned from her position. Burgo said she should have been fired.
"Our students' care and well-being is paramount, and this situation should not have happened. The teacher has resigned and we are continuing our investigation into how the situation occurred," a school official said in a statement to WSBTV.

The incident, the official said, happened right before dismissal at the end of the day. During the chaos of getting all of the students boarded, Burgo's son was put on the bus despite alleged efforts to find him replacement clothing first.
"Not only do you have a teacher who made a bad call, you have all those other people who may have [seen] it, or should have [seen] a child getting on the bus in his underwear," Burgo said. "Teachers are mandated reporters. How do you walk by a school of teachers and get on a bus in your underwear in 40 degree weather?"
In a similar incident in Florida, a girl with a medical condition was sent home from school wearing nothing but underwear and a shirt after an accident, according to Click Orlando. The girl's family ultimately hired a lawyer to handle their case in an effort to make sure it didn't happen again.
