New Jersey authorities are investigating a shocking video (below) posted on March 22 on Facebook. The video shows a grown man viciously attacking a minor.
Authorities said the violent footage was recorded at a home in National Park, New Jersey, WPVI reports. The clip shows an older man -- identified as a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter -- telling a teen not to move while he’s lying on the couch. He then punches and grabs the teen, dragging him from the couch to the floor.
The clip was uploaded to Facebook on March 22 and has since gone viral, receiving over 2 million views, 38,000 shares and 18,500 comments in just two days.
Ever since the video was uploaded on social media and YouTube, the West Deptford Township Police Department’s phone has been ringing off the hook.
"It took me back," West Deptford Township Police Chief Samuel DiSimone told WPVI. "I was very, very shocked to watch what appears to be a juvenile just getting assaulted for no reason at all."
Police said they have started an investigation and identified all the individuals in the footage. According to authorities, the juvenile is fine and no longer in danger. He is not related to the attacker.
"They do know each other so we've made certain that they're not gonna see each other, they're not gonna come together, have any interaction between the two," DiSimone said.
Police are continuing their investigation, and DiSimone said they would take appropriate action once the investigation was complete.
A few teenagers reportedly went to the suspect’s home and expressed their anger after seeing the violent Facebook video. However, the West Deptford Township Police Department is advising people not to be vigilantes and to abstain from making threats online.
