A California man stabbed himself to death inside a Target store on March 30.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. at a Fontana Target when the man walked into the store, took a knife from the kitchen section and stabbed himself in the torso, according to Fontana police.

“Upon arrival, our officers located an individual with an apparent self-inflicted stabbing wound to the torso area,” said police spokesperson Martha Guzman-Hurtado. “It appears that this incident is suicide.”

He was pronounced dead at the scene, reports KABC.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

A Target corporate spokesperson said in an official statement that the retailer is cooperating closely with authorities on the incident:

“At Target, the safety and security of our guests and team members is a top priority. Once it was determined there was no danger to guests or team members, we sectioned off the entire area to allow the police to investigate. Following that investigation, we did close the store, and the store remains closed. We anticipate reopening soon. We appreciate the support of local law enforcement, and our thoughts are with anyone who may have been impacted."

The store stayed open for about two hours after the event as customers unassumingly walked in the front door past the ambulances and other emergency vehicles parked out front.

But not all Target customers were satisfied with the response to the event.

"It's kind of scary, but it gives you the impression they don't want to lose making money," Target shopper Brenda Murrell told KABC. "Because if you know somebody's dead, a lot of times people won't come."

The Target did close after 1 p.m. when the coroner removed the body.

“It's disgusting that they would let people continue to shop when there’s a dead body inside. My stomach is churning,” customer Marlen Rodriguez told The San Bernardino County Sun.

“Why wouldn't they clear the store out as soon as they knew what had happened?”
