A daughter was working as a 911 dispatcher when she received a terrifying call from her own mother.
In February, Mallory Ransom dispatched emergency services to her mother, who called 911 when she was being held at gunpoint.
"I always feel sympathy and heartache for them because they’re going through one of the worst days of their life," Mallory said of her job, reported KDFW. "But it’s magnified when it’s somebody you know, especially your mom."
"There is always the chance that you will come across the person you know very well in these circumstances," said Aaron Ausmus, chief of Dalworthington Gardens Police.

Debra Ransom, Mallory’s mother, was involved in a violent argument with her then fiance, Donald Graves. Although the home was not far from the police station, Graves shot Debra and then shot himself in the face. During the entire incident, Mallory was on the phone, trying to help.
"Her voice was getting weaker and she kept basically telling me goodbye," Mallory recalled. "She was telling me that she loved me and she was sorry and goodbye."
Ausmus lauded Mallory’s professionalism, calling her behavior "incomparable to anything I’ve seen in that kind of situation," reported The Dallas Morning News.
"I had to," Mallory explained. "She was going to get taken out of that house and everybody at the scene was going to be safe because that’s my job."

"It was an act of heroism," said Ausmus. "Her ability to compartmentalization the situation and get the job done [and] get the officers to the scene despite all that was going on."
After about 25 minutes, Mallory was allowed to leave her post and attend to her mother.
"I was sobbing the entire way,” she said. “It gave me that outlet to get all of my emotions I was holding back in dispatch out."
Both Debra are Graves were in critical condition, but expected to recover. Mallory’s mother is still recovering in a rehabilitation facility. Graves was charged with aggravated assault.
"We can only say God had a hand in that because it came directly to me," Mallory said.
