The Washington Post said Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton lied when she said that her previous answers about her email scandal were "truthful."

“[FBI Director James] Comey said my answers were truthful, and what I’ve said is consistent with what I have told the American people, that there were decisions discussed and made to classify, retroactively, certain of the emails,” Clinton told Fox News.

But that's not what Comey said in an exchange with Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina.

“Secretary Clinton said there was nothing marked classified on her emails, either sent or received. Was that true?” Gowdy asked Comey during a congressional hearing

“That’s not true,” Comey responded.

“Secretary Clinton said, 'I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email. There is no classified material.' Was that true?” Gowdy continued.

“There was classified material emailed,” Comey said.

According to The Washington Post, a Clinton aide said she was referring to when Comey said, "We have no basis to conclude she lied to the FBI,” during that congressional hearing.

But during his statement where he explained why the FBI wouldn't recommend an indictment despite evidence of wrongdoing, Comey was more blunt with his description of Clinton's private email system while she served as Secretary of State.

“Although we did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate laws governing the handling of classified information, there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information,” Comey said.

The Washington Post said Clinton often relies on “technical and legalistic answers” to avoid answering tough questions.

“And although Comey did say many emails were retroactively classified, he also said that there were some emails that were already classified that should not have been sent on an unclassified, private server,” The Washington Post reported. “That’s the uncomfortable truth that Clinton has trouble admitting.”

As a result, Clinton received "four Pinocchios" for lying.
