Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts called for a delay in the hearing for Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch due to the ongoing FBI investigation into President Donald Trump's ties to the Russian government.
"Neil Gorsuch is up for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court from a President whose campaign is under FBI investigation. I've strongly opposed the Gorsuch nomination. Giant companies don't need another Supreme Court justice to tilt the law in their favor," Warren wrote in a series of tweets on March 21. "But is the Senate really going to pretend there's no cloud over [Donald Trump] & move on w/ the Gorsuch nomination like things are normal? The FBI Director testified [Donald Trump]'s campaign is under investigation for collusion w/ Russia. Lifetime court appointments can wait."
Warren's announcement comes one day after FBI Director James Comey confirmed during a congressional hearing that Trump and some of his campaign officials are under investigation for any possible collusion with the Russian government during the 2016 presidential election.
"I have been authorized by the Department of Justice to confirm that the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence mission, is investigating the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election and that includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia's efforts," Comey told members of the House Intelligence Committee on March 20, according to the Washington Post. "As with any counterintelligence investigation, this will also include an assessment of whether any crimes were committed."

Delaying the vote on Gorsuch because of the FBI investigation appears to be a point of attack for the Democrats.
On the same day Warren sent her tweets, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez also took to the social media site to make a similar case.
"A few thoughts after watching Gorsuch’s hearing so far: First, it’s entirely unacceptable for Donald Trump to place a justice on SCOTUS with his presidency under the cloud of an FBI investigation," Perez wrote. "The Senate should hold off on any action on this lifetime appointment until the FBI investigation into Trump's Russia connections concludes."
Perez added: "We’ve watched as Donald Trump assaults the Constitution on a daily basis & his nominee has convinced no one he would check Trump's behavior."

Trump has denied any collusion with the Russian government and has repeatedly referred to the rumors and allegations as "fake news."
