Wall Street Journal Employee Finds Dead Frog in Pret A Manger Salad

After bringing her Pret A Manger salad back to the office, a Wall Street Journal employee was surprised to find a dead frog in her meal.

The unidentified employee had eaten half the salad before she realized there was a frog among the lettuce. She then called over coworker, Digital Features Editor Kathryn Lurie, who took a picture of the salad.

After posting the picture to Instagram, Lurie took to Twitter and said the staffer who had found a frog in her salad was “pretty shaken, understandably!”

The WSJ employee returned to the Pret location at 6th Ave and 47th street, across from the company’s office, and received a refund and voucher for a free lunch.

“Our lettuce is sourced from farms that do not use any pesticides on its produce, therefore organic matter does very rarely manage to pass through our production process,” Ellen Roggemann, vice president of brand marketing for the company in the U.S., said. “We are currently looking into this issue to make every effort that this does not happen again.”

Roggermann added that the company is regretful of the incident and takes these matters seriously.
