A waitress in Kentucky was shocked to receive a $1,000 tip from a pair of customers on Christmas Eve.
Rachel Vanorden was working at Golden Corral in London, Kentucky, on Christmas Eve when a husband and wife walked into the restaurant and sat down. "I thought it was just going to be like any other night," said Vanorden, reports WYMT. The night turned out to be anything but, when the couple gave Vanorden the very generous tip.
"About half way through his dinner he got up and walked outside and came back about ten minutes later," the waitress said. "Then they just got up and left. I went to clean their table and there was $1,000 wrapped inside of a $1 bill."
The couple also left a note, in which they told Vanorden that they hoped she could use the money, but that it wouldn't last forever. They added in their note that Jesus lived forever and told her to read the Bible.

Vanorden said that she has been following the couple's advice.
"Actually I have started reading my Bible and I started exactly where they told me to," she said.
Vanorden said that she has used some of the money to buy Christmas presents for her 3-year-old son, and that she would use the rest to pay bills.
Gail Sizemore, one of Vanorden's managers, said that the waitress had earned the tip.

"She's a very hard-worker ... she's a very good worker here at Golden Corral," Sizemore said.
Vanorden said that she wanted to let the couple know that she appreciated their kindness, and wanted to thank them.
"It really helped out. I just like that there are still good people out in the world that do things like that," she said.
In a similar story in Arizona from a few days earlier, a waitress who was pregnant received a $900 tip from a generous customer.
Sarah Clark, who works as a server at Pita Jungle in Phoenix, Arizona, was nine months pregnant and waiting for her husband to have knee surgery when a kind customer left her a $900 tip.
"This is God's money - he gave it to us so we could give it to you. God bless," read a short note written on the receipt, Fox News reports.
"I couldn’t believe what I was [seeing] at first because it was such a high amount -- $900 is a lot of money," said Clark. "And it took a while for it to set in, and once it did, I cried for a little while."
Clark said that the money would help her as she went on maternity leave, as her husband wasn't working because of his surgery.
"You always hear about these things happening, but you never expect to be the recipient of it," said Clark.
