A man suspected of raping a 3-year-old girl in Brazil was tracked down by vigilantes.  The individuals reportedly severed several of the man’s body parts, including his penis and three of his fingers.

The attack occurred in Severinia, a city in the state of São Paulo. According to the New York Daily News, the man was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors failed to reattach any of his severed body parts.

The 66-year-old man, Francisco de Souza Castro, was accused of sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl on the ranch where he worked as a housekeeper. The girl was brought to the farm by her family, who noticed signs of abuse after she had returned home.

According to Brazilian news publication Estadão, Castro remains hospitalized for his injuries.

Police confirmed that there were signs of rape present on the child and that Castro was conscious and alert during the attack. The vigilantes that carried out the attack have yet to be identified, although local authorities are searching for suspects.
