He has since been suspended from school but will be able to appeal it.

Kaplanayan was released on $200,000 bail two days after he was booked. He's scheduled to return to court on April 25.

His water polo team website said he is a redshirt freshman from Glendale, Calif., and had played on the attacker position.

In his sophomore year of high school, he set the CIF single-session record of 229 goals. He played at Hoover High School and was a three-time first team All-CIF selection.

His mother and sister told KTLA that he is innocent and they will fight until it is proven.

"It's so easy for them to just accuse a person without like telling the truth. My son is innocent, I can tell you that and we're going to prove that, because he's not one of those guys," Marine Kaplanayan said.
