After two Asian housemaids were found guilty of indulging in sorcery at their employers’ houses in Saudi Arabia, a court sentenced them to 10 years in jail and ordered that they be lashed 1,000 times.

The two maids were turned in to the country’s feared religious police after their employers said that their families had been harmed by sorcery.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice searched the two homes where the maids were employed and found talismans and other magic items.

“The court found them guilty and sentenced them to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes each,” read a Saudi Arabian newspaper.

Saudi Arabia has beheaded people in the past for practicing magic, Emirates 24/7 reported. The country employs more than two million domestic servants. They are mostly from Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Africa.
