Two Alabama men were charged after reportedly urinating on and damaging a memorial for veterans.

The two men had allegedly entered the Florence, Alabama, park after hours on the night of Oct. 24 and climbed onto an F-4 Phantom fighter jet. In surveillance footage, both men can be seen attempting to urinate on one of the two wings.

“And they attempted to get the fuselage off, but were unsuccessful,” Police Sgt. Cliff Billingsley said. “I don’t know why they were trying to do that unless they were trying to get inside the jet.”

The men then jumped off the jet and wandered to the rear of the memorial. The door in the back was reportedly beaten in with a trash can, which caused damage. At that point, a citizen complained to police and the two men were apprehended about 1 mile from the memorial.

Officers were later able to connect the footage to the captured men.

“We’ll have something happen every once in a while, but for the most part people are respectful of the memorial,” Randy Chapin, a veteran, said. “They understand what it means. But I guess there are a few that just don’t get it. I don’t understand why anyone wants to do something as hurtful as damaging a veterans memorial.”

The suspects are 24-year-old Bradley Wayne Crosslin and 18-year-old Zachary Royce. Both were arrested and charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass and desecration of a memorial.
