President Trump's Muslim Ban Finds Mixed Support

| by Oren Peleg

Since taking office on Jan. 20 and on through Feb. 2, President Donald Trump has signed 11 high-profile executive orders. A new survey finds that three of the executive orders enjoy majority approval, while all 11 have at least 46 percent support.

The survey, conducted by Morning Consult/Politico from Feb. 2 through Feb. 4, asked American voters about the orders.

Of those polled, 55 percent approved of Trump's revoking of federal funding to "sanctuary cities" and his temporary travel ban on immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries. And 54 percent approve of the executive order to freeze federal regulations until reviewed. Just below half -- 49 percent -- approve of the order to delay or ignore parts of the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare).

Forty-eight percent approve of the federal hiring freeze, the call for immediate construction of a border wall with Mexico, and fast approval by the State Department to construct the Keystone XL pipeline. In addition, 47 percent of those surveyed approve of Trump's executive order to permanently withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, cut two regulations for new one implemented, and end federal funding of foreign aid to groups that include abortion education. Finally, 46 percent of Americans voters approve of Trump's executive order to grant approval of construction to the Dakota Access Pipeline.

But not all national surveys agree on the percentage of support Trump's Muslim ban receives.

According to Gallup, which conducted a poll Jan. 30 through Jan. 31, just days prior to the Morning Consult/Politico poll, only 42 percent of Americans approve of the Muslim ban, and 55 percent disapprove of it.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted on those same days found that 49 percent Americans agreed with Trump's Muslim ban, and 41 percent disagreed.

As of Feb. 8, Gallup has Trump at a 43 percent approval rating with the American public.
