Donald Trump has reportedly gained his first endorsements from current members of Congress. Reps. Chris Collins of New York and Duncan Hunter of California announced their support for Trump on Feb. 24.
Collins represents a conservative district in New York state, and he voiced his support for the real estate mogul’s promises to take on the foes of the U.S. abroad and create more jobs at home, reports the Huffington Post.
“Donald Trump has clearly demonstrated that he has both the guts and the fortitude to return our nation’s jobs stolen by China, take on our enemies like ISIS, Iran, North Korea and Russia, and most importantly, reestablish the opportunity for our children and grandchildren to attain the American Dream,” Collins told the Buffalo News.
Hunter represents a San Diego district concerned about border control. He expressed support for Trump’s outsider status, saying “we don’t need a policy wonk as president. We need a leader as president.”

Despite receiving his first endorsements from members of Congress so far, Trump does not seem enthusiastic about the support boost from fellow politicians, reports Politico.
On Feb. 23, the day of the Caucus, Trump said “endorsements mean very little.”
Hunter was more than willing to offer his support despite the lack of enthusiasm from the Trump campaign.
“I don’t think Trump wants my endorsement. And that’s one reason why I like him,” said the Congressman.
The endorsements come after Trump won a definitive victory in the GOP Nevada Caucus on Feb. 23, taking more than 40 percent of the Republican vote, reports CNN.
Trump was quick to emphasize his sweeping victory in Nevada. In a victory speech, Trump said, “If you listen to the pundits, we weren’t expected to win too much—and now we’re winning, winning, winning the country.”
Trump has won the last three Republican primaries, taking the most votes and delegates in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada.
