President-elect Donald Trump used Twitter to criticize the head of a steel workers union that represents employees of the Carrier factory in Indiana.
"Chuck Jones, who is President of United Steelworkers 1999, has done a terrible job representing workers. No wonder companies flee country!" Trump wrote. “If United Steelworkers 1999 was any good, they would have kept those jobs in Indiana. Spend more time working-less time talking. Reduce dues.”
Jones told The Washington Post he doesn't use Twitter and doesn't have a smartphone, so it took a while before he became aware of Trump's negative comments.
“My first thought was, ‘Well, that’s not very nice,’” he told The Washington Post. “Then, 'Well, I might not sleep much tonight.'"

Trump's attack comes days after he negotiated a deal with United Technologies, the parent company of Carrier, to save approximately 800 out of nearly 2,000 jobs the company had been planning to move to Mexico.
Trump's deal involved at least $7 million in tax credits to the company and promises of lower business taxes and fewer regulations, according to IndyStar.
Trump hailed the deal as a victory won before he's even officially sworn in. But Jones was critical of Trump for claiming to have saved more jobs than he did.
“Trump and Pence, they pulled a dog and pony show on the numbers,” said Jones. “I almost threw up in my mouth.”

Trump claimed to have saved more than 1,100 out of 2,100 jobs scheduled to be relocated to Mexico.
“I will tell you that United Technologies and Carrier stepped it up and now they’re keeping -- actually the number’s over 1,100 people, which is so great, which is so great,” Trump said, according to The Washington Post.
But the actual number of jobs save is about 800, with the rest still going to Mexico while Carrier gets a large tax incentive.
