Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is accusing President Barack Obama of founding ISIS.

“In many respects, you know, they honor President Obama,” Trump said of the terrorist organization while speaking at an Aug. 10 campaign rally outside Fort Lauderdale, Florida, according to the Chicago Tribune. “He is the founder of ISIS.”

Trump repeated the accusation three more times during his speech.

During an interview on Aug. 11 with CNBC, Trump stood behind his statement.

“He was the founder of ISIS, absolutely,” Trump said, using the occupation of Iraq and the withdrawal of troops by Obama as to why he could be considered the founder since he claims it destabilized the Middle East.

“He was the founder, absolutely, the founder. He gets the most valuable player award, him and Hillary … I gave them co-founders,” Trump said of Obama and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

“Is there something wrong with saying that? Why? Are people complaining that I said he was the founder of ISIS?” Trump asked during the interview.

When asked whether he thinks his statements will affect the election, Trump said he is not concerned.

"I'm a truth teller. All I do is tell the truth. And if at the end of 90 days, I've fallen short because I'm somewhat politically correct even though I'm supposed to be the smart one and even though I'm supposed to have a lot of good ideas, it's OK,” Trump said. “I go back to a very good way of life."

“It’s not what I’m looking to do,” he added. “I think we’re gonna have a victory.”
