Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wants New Yorkers to remember what Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, his opponent for the GOP nomination, said of their values before they cast their votes during the state's April 19 primary.

“Remember when he started lecturing me on New York values like we’re no good?“ Trump said during an April 6 rally in Nassau County, referring to the heavily criticized remark Cruz made before the Iowa caucuses, according to CNN.

“I looked at him and started talking about our incredible police, our incredible firefighters,” Trump said, referencing the bravery New Yorkers displayed following the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Based on what happened to Cruz while in the Bronx the same day, New Yorkers don’t need Trump to remind them of the candidate’s remarks, or his policies.

Cruz was ridiculed during a campaign stop for his immigration policies and negative views on New Yorkers; one heckler was even removed from the event because of his anti-Cruz rhetoric.

“You’re running on an anti-immigration platform, and you’re speaking in the Bronx,” the demonstrator said. “You should not be here.”

Before the event, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. voiced harsh criticism of Cruz, the New York Daily News reports.

“Ted Cruz is a hypocrite. He not only offended New Yorkers, he offended Bronxites, and now he’s here today in New York and in the Bronx looking for money and votes,” Diaz said.

“We in the Bronx know how offensive he’s been,” he added. “We know the truth about our borough.”

Cruz contends that the New York values he criticizes belong to liberal Democrats and even Trump himself, who he claims reject charter schools, school choice, and support for police officers.

“Those are the values, the values of New York liberal politicians that have been hammering the people of this great state,” Cruz said, citing Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio as the worst offender.

“Every time there is a confrontation between criminals and cops, he sides with the criminals, looters, and rioters instead of the police officers,” Cruz said of de Blasio.

Trump wants New Yorkers to forget Cruz exists.

“We all know people who died and I’ve got this guy standing over there looking at me and talking to me about New York values with scorn on his face, with hatred of New York,” Trump said at the rally, CNN reports. “So folks, I think you can forget about him.”
