Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump called for the Clinton Foundation to be shut down after several reports have suggested the nonprofit has been used to take money in exchange for political favors (video below).

“Hillary Clinton is the defender of the corrupt and rigged status quo,” Trump said of the Democratic presidential nominee in a statement posted on Facebook. “The Clintons have spent decades as insiders lining their own pockets and taking care of donors instead of the American people. It is now clear that the Clinton Foundation is the most corrupt enterprise in political history. What they were doing during Crooked Hillary’s time as Secretary of State was wrong then, and it is wrong now. It must be shut down immediately.”

The Clinton Foundation took in tens of millions of dollars from politicians and businessmen from a number of foreign countries criticized for human rights abuses, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Brunei and Algeria, according to The New York Times. And the Clinton Foundation took money before, during, and after Hillary Clinton's time as secretary of state.

Saudi Arabia was one of the biggest Clinton Foundation donors, giving between $10 and $25 million, The New York Times reported.

According to The Washington Post, the Clinton Foundation has raised nearly $2 billion since the organization was founded by former President Bill Clinton in 2001.

Even after Hillary Clinton left the State Department, the Clinton Foundation was implicated in suspect deals. According to a Fox News report, the State Department bought real estate from a Nigerian real estate firm owned by a Clinton Foundation donor shortly after Hillary Clinton left her post as secretary of state.

After posting a statement to Facebook, Trump went on Fox News to continue his criticism of the Clinton Foundation.

"Well, number one, they should shut it down, and number two, they should give the money back to a lot of countries we shouldn’t be taking -- and they shouldn’t be taking money from," Trump said. "Countries that influenced her totally and also countries that discriminated against women and gays and everybody else. I mean, that money should be given back. They should not take that money.”
