Report: Trump To Dance With Caitlyn Jenner On Jan. 20

| by Lauren Briggs

Caitlyn Jenner has reportedly accepted an invitation from President-elect Donald Trump's team to dance with him at his Jan. 20 inauguration and reach out to a community with which Trump has little favor.

"Caitlyn sees this as a chance to bring attention to LGBTQ causes and she is committed to protecting human rights no matter the political party in power," one source told The New York Post's Page Six of the rumors. "She has no problem speaking out if Republicans fail to protect equal rights."

Jenner, a staunch Republican who offered to be Trump's "trans ambassador" during the 2016 election, reportedly saw the dance invitation as "an opportunity to represent and defend the LGBTQ community within the party," a source told People.

"The image of Trump dancing with Caitlyn would send a strong message that he supports gay rights and trans rights," one member of Trump's administration told Page Six, calling the idea a "brilliant" one. "A picture is worth a thousand tweets."

However, the reports have not been officially confirmed. One rep for the former Olympian shot the rumor down as "a ridiculous story."

"There have been no discussions about who Caitlyn will or won't dance with, or if she will dance at all," the rep told People. "I can't deal in hypotheticals and have no idea what any Trump aids hope happens. Of course, real question is if they danced, who would lead?"

The former athlete and  reality TV star has become increasingly vocal in her support for Republican politics after coming out as a transgender woman and beginning her transition in 2015, as one of the few openly conservative transgender celebrities.

"I believe in our Constitution," Jenner told Bill Simmons from HBO's Any Given Wednesday in August 2016, according to US Weekly. "I think the Republican side, although I've been very disappointed with them over the last 10 to 20 years, has a better opportunity to bring this country back to, really, as close as you can to what it was.… I have kind of positioned myself with the Republican Party to try to help these people understand, [to help] the Republican Party understand what the issues are for the LBGT community."
