City Block Evacuated by Police After Police Training Pipe Bomb Found in Bus (Video)

| by Michael Allen

Streets were closed in a business district in Kent, Wash., for three hours after a suspicious device was found on a bus this morning. Air space over the bus also was closed off to airplanes.

KOMO News reporter Keith Eldridge tweeted from the scene:

SWAT vehicles now front & back of Metro bus. This is not your normal suspicious backpack episode.

A bomb squad, two SWAT teams and two bomb squad robots came to the scene to check out the mysterious object, which turned out to be a fake bomb from an earlier bomb training session by police, notes KOMO News.

An unidentified witness filmed the bomb squad using a robot to blow up the device (video below).

DB Gates, with King County Sheriff’s Office, told Q13FOX News that some members of the bomb squad realized what it was, but still had to follow the rules to make sure it wasn’t a real bomb.

The King County Sheriff’s Office later apologized on Twitter:

Apologies to the drivers and businesses in Kent East Hill impacted by this morning's suspicious bag incident. Our training aid was at fault.
