Study: Cities with the Best and Worst Drivers

| by Michael Allen

Allstate insurance recently released the 8th annual 'America’s Best Drivers Report,' which ranks ranks the 200 largest cities in car accident frequency.

According to the report, the safest driving city is Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It is the fifth year Sioux Falls has held the top spot in the report’s eight-year history.

The average driver in Sioux Falls will experience a car crash every 13.8 years, 27.6 percent less likely than the national average of 10 years.

The bad cities include Los Angeles, CA with 6.7 years between car accidents, Philadelphia, PA at 6.1 years and Chicago, IL at one collision every 7.9 years.

To create the list, Allstate claims were analyzed over a two-year period [from January 2009 to December 2010].

Car crash fatalities are at the lowest level they've been since 1949, but still average more than 32,000 every year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
