Fans of Vice President Joe Biden Raise Money to Buy Him a Trans Am

The Onion, a satirical newspaper,  recently ran a parody story of Vice President Joe Biden washing his 1981 Trans Am in the White House driveway. The piece included a photoshopped picture of Biden without his shirt.

Now, supporters of Biden have started a fundraising attempt on Indiegogo.com to buy Vice President Biden a Trans Am sports car.

The Trans Am campaign's creator, who goes by 'Hack Patooey,' writes on the Trans Am campaign page: "In order to let Vice President Biden know just how much we appreciate him, while also making a very silly part of the internet come true (we are the internet after all); let's buy Uncle Joe a Trans Am like the one that is featured in the Onion article."

The campaign has received more than $1,000 in financial commitments from more than 80 donors.

The sincere reasons for buying the Trans Am for Vice President Biden include Biden's support for gay marriage and his positions on foreign policy.

However, at the bottom of the fundraising page the whole campaign takes a left turn:: "Now, Uncle Joe won't be able to accept this behemoth of steely American grace and power. He has these pesky laws and regulations and political-y things to deal with."

Instead the campaign plans a circular path to charity. They plan to raise money to buy the Trans Am and then donate that money from the auction to charities such as Biden Breast Health Initiative, Doctors Without Borders, Wounded Warrior Project and GLAAD.
