Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks announced that his mother has passed away.
The announcement came on July 12, the Daily Mirror reports. Hanks took to Instagram to pay tribute to his mother, Janet Marylyn Frager, who passed away at age 84.
Hanks posted an old photograph of his mother.

“This beauty?" Hanks wrote, according to the Daily Mirror. "My mom. She was the difference in many lives. Many lives. We say goodbye to her today. Safe crossing, mom!”
Rita Wilson, Hanks' wife, also paid tribute to Frager, who worked at a hospital.
“This wonderful lady gave birth to my husband, and three other children,” Wilson wrote. “Thank you for bringing my love into the world. She is at peace now.”
Fans quickly issued messages of support for Hanks and his family.

Frager’s death comes just three days after Hanks' 60th birthday.
