A 2-week-old girl was abandoned by her parents in India after they found that she had a rare skin condition that covered her in wrinkles.
The child’s paternal grandfather, Dilip Dode, 50, is currently caring for her.
She was born premature seven months into the pregnancy and weighs a little under two pounds.
The grandfather had to feed her goat’s milk for two weeks before he was able to take her to a hospital in western India, almost 90 miles away from their village.

“I am thankful to the hospital for giving free medical treatment to my granddaughter,” he said, according to the Mirror.
The child’s mother, Mamata Dode, 25, and father, Ajay Dode, 25, allegedly said that they refused to feed their daughter due to the way she looks, MyInforms reports.
"It is really disheartening that even her parents have rejected her but I will go to any extent to save her,” said the grandfather.

Dode said that his son and his wife wanted a healthy child like their three-year-old daughter, and when they discovered that their newborn had a skin condition, they abandoned her.
“During my daughter-in-law’s pregnancy, my son had taken her for regular check ups at the primary health care center in our village,” he said, “but doctors never told them there was any problem with the baby.”
“…When the baby was given to us, we were left shocked," he continued. "She did not have the usual features and the word soon spread in the village. From our relatives to villagers, everyone gathered at our home to have a look at the baby. And when they got to see her they ran away in fear.
“None held the baby in hands as they thought they will catch the disease," he added. "Even my son and daughter-in-law refused to accept her as they were embarrassed to have given birth to her.”
Despite this, the grandfather took it upon himself to care for her.
“But I knew it was not her fault so I started taking care of her,” he said. “My only hope is that she gets well and lives a normal life. I will try to convince her parents to accept her but if they still refuse, I will raise her myself.”
The hospital where she is being treated has agreed to pay the nearly $8,000 in medical costs and will even arrange for Dode to stay nearby.
According to Dr. Minnie Bodhanwala, CEO at the hospital, the child is improving.
“She was dehydrated when she came to us and any further delay could have proven fatal,” Bodhanwala said. “But now she is responding to the medical treatment and improving.”
She believes the child has a case of Intra-Uterine Growth Retardation. The baby could also have some chromosal abnormality, MyInforms reports.
“But we can’t tell the actual problem until we get the full results from the laboratory,” she said, according to the Mirror."We will keep this baby in the hospital for a long time."
